What happens if a test is positive.

A physician from the clinic contacts you personally — by phone or at a visit, never by voicemail, text or email. You receive clear information and, for notifiable infections, the rules of conduct (förhållningsregler) that Swedish law requires — such as informing partners and taking part in confidential partner tracing. Who named whom is never revealed, in either direction. Everything that follows a positive result — treatment, follow-up and partner tracing at the receiving clinic — is free of charge; the test with us is the only thing you pay for.

Not notifiable — treated at the clinicMycoplasma genitalium, trichomonas, candida and bacterial infections are not notifiable. Our physicians diagnose and, where needed, treat these directly, with a treatment plan included in your follow-up.
ChlamydiaOur physician informs you personally, files the statutory anonymised notification, and refers you to a sexual-health clinic where treatment and partner tracing are free of charge. Your result from our accredited laboratory (SYNLAB) is accepted there without re-testing.
Gonorrhoea & syphilisBy law, treatment and partner tracing take place at a specialist clinic — we arrange the referral and file the anonymised notification. All specialist care is free of charge. For syphilis, a recent exposure can take up to three months to show in a blood test, so a follow-up test is sometimes needed — our physician will advise you.
HIVIf a test is reactive, our physician contacts you personally and connects you directly with a specialist HIV clinic for immediate, free confirmatory testing and care.
Hepatitis B & CReported to the health authorities as required by law — this notification includes your identity — with referral to an infectious-diseases clinic. For hepatitis B, close contacts are offered free testing and vaccination.

Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B are covered by the Swedish Communicable Diseases Act (smittskyddslagen), and testing for them is free of charge in the public healthcare system. In Stockholm, for example:

When should I get tested?
After unprotected sex with a new partner, before starting a new relationship, after a partner tests positive, or simply at regular intervals if you have multiple partners. Most STIs cause no symptoms initially, so screening is the only way to know. Worth knowing: Swedish law asks anyone who has reason to suspect one of the notifiable infections to get tested without delay — and testing for these is always available free of charge in the public healthcare system.
Will my information stay private?
Yes — and Swedish law is built to protect you. Your consultations and results are confidential under the Patient Data Act (patientdatalagen), and chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B/C are notifiable under the Swedish Communicable Diseases Act — a confirmed case is always reported to the communicable-disease authorities, at every clinic in Sweden, public or private.

Positive results for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV are reported under an anonymised code — never your name. Hepatitis B and C are, by law, reported with your identity. No report is ever shared with employers or insurers.

What happens if a test comes back positive?
A physician from the clinic contacts you personally — by phone or at a visit, never by voicemail, text or email — usually within 24 hours of the result. Findings that are not notifiable (mycoplasma, trichomonas, candida, bacterial infections) are treated directly by our physicians. For the notifiable infections, we handle the statutory steps and arrange your onward referral — and everything that follows, including treatment, follow-up and partner tracing at the receiving clinic, is free of charge. Can I be treated at the clinic?
For infections that are not notifiable — Mycoplasma genitalium, trichomonas, candida and bacterial infections — yes: diagnosis and treatment are handled directly by our physicians, with prescriptions issued the same day and follow-up to confirm resolution.

For the notifiable infections (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B/C), Swedish law places treatment, follow-up and partner tracing with public and specialist clinics — free of charge. We inform you personally, complete the statutory steps, and arrange your referral. Partner tracing is confidential: who named whom is never revealed, in either direction.
